I loaded the same RAW file in both LR 2.6/ACR 5.6 and DPP 3.8. This was a worst case shot at 12800.. I cranked up NR to max on both and exported a JPG at max quality, 300 dpi, no rezise.. very quick and dirty. On LR, I'm using the right camera profiles for my 7d.. This is astonishing to me.. is the diff really this huge? I really like the LR WF and still find DPP clunky, but for this difference, DPP is worth putting up with. This is a screenshot of a 300% crop. IMHO, the much softer DPP image looks better and LR does not seem to be able to remove noise as well. Before I go nuts doing a full-on comparison at all ISOs and under more realistic conditions, I am seeing what pops up here.. maybe someone has already done this and/or can point me to an article somewhere. Usually when that question is asked a number of people in this forum say Noise Ninja and a few like my favorite which is Noiseware Professional, it comes as both standalone and PS plugin.
