How To Read To A Child Sims 4

Sep 11, 2014 My child has the Whiz Kid aspiration, and one of the first tasks is 'Be Read to by an Adult for 3 Hours' - I can't figure out how to get either an adult to read to him, or him to ask them to do so. I've tried giving each of them a book, and the option doesn't come up on either book, it's not under Friendly interactions, it's not on the bookcase.

You have to have the bookshelf open and click on the book you want to read, or have the book placed in the world and click on it there. It doesn't work just by clicking on the bookshelf.

That is what I am doing. I have the book placed on the table, or floor and the only options that come up are 'read *insert title' 'Put Away' and 'Put in Inventory' Not 'Read *insert title* to Child'
Like I said, I have been able to do this action in the past, with her father actually when he was a child. It seems like with this 3rd generation of sims the action just went away. I am wondering if I have a glitch in my game, I am somewhat of a computer problem illiterate lol
Have you tried coming out of the game and reloading? Or repairing the game (r-click game box on Origin > Repair game)?

If you have any mods installed into the game, you might have to remove them because some of the mods will interfere with the gameplay. I .always put the book in adult inventory and click the read to child action there

The person reading and the child has to be in the same room. Weird and inconvenient I know.

Repairing didn't work. I restarted my computer after repairing it. I have done everything that you have all suggested in the game still not working. I don't even know what mods are Bradyman6 lol. Ugh, I have to go to work now so I'll try repairing it again tonight or? ..Any other suggestions?

I tried that as well. It didn't work.
@Sicasev07 MOD are modified behavior or lines of code to that change behavior or actions in game.
http://modthesims.info/ is one site where you can find a mod to use. Many people use MODs to customize Sims actions, outfits, builds, rugs. They enhance your game play in decor, animations, or actions and sometimes they fix problems that happen in game that just can't be fixed any other way .
Example:
These MODs are using the violin and guitar and making them into Renaissance instruments, just to make the story you are playing more authentic. Some do mess up your game and when updates come you have to pull the MOD folder from the Electronic Arts folder (just move to desktop) and you have to update them periodically so you have to keep track of the MODs. After you finish the EA update you just move the folder back.

The child has 'good friend' status with her mother and father. The relationship bar thing is about/more than halfway with both parents and grandma (who lives with them). Do you think I need to work on the relationship more?
No that should be enough. @rosemow can help you with problems and tell you how to fix what you haven't already tried. You may have to clean your caches. Check back when you can to see if she answers.

I've got another solution that might help you in this case.
Try uninstalling the game from Origin, and then re-install the game.
Before uninstalling The Sims 4, make sure to save your game files beforehand.
Here's how:
1) Search in your computer for 'Electronic Arts'.
Most of the time it is found in Documents.
2) Copy and Paste the folder on to the desktop.
3) Then uninstall The Sims 4!
Let me know if this works.

Have the child's book in the older Sim's inventory and then it should come up.
EDIT TO ADD: I opened up my game and this is definitely how you do it. Make sure it is a child's book in the older sim's inventory and you can 'Read to Child..'

Yes you can! You can even read to a group of them at once. It is really cute.
You might check if the book is listed as a children's book or not. It didn't used to need to be a children's book but lately its the only books I get the option to read to them.

Then delete the sims 4 folder on the desktop? I just did everything you said, should I restart my computer?

Yup, that's exactly what I did. I think it's a glitch or something. I hope what Rosemow's idea will fix it.

Yeah, it's apart of one of the family aspirations for adults, and the genius aspiration for a child. You have to read with a child for 2 hours to complete the 2nd stage, if I'm remembering correctly.

Problem

I’m trying to read a book to my toddler but the Sim just waves or the action is dropped from the queue
I’m trying to put my toddler to bed but the Sim just waves and nothing happens.

Cause

Waving Sims usually point towards a routing issues – something is in the way and the Sims can’t reach the objects. In the case of reading to toddlers or putting them to bed, the cause is mostly that the long side of the bed is directly adjacent to a wall. or other objects nearby blocking.
The action often gets canceled when a toddler asks for a bedtime story and the Sim that’s supposed to read it is rather far away. This happens a lot if the toddler is really tired or has otherwise low needs.

Solution

Move the bed so only the short side is against the wall. This makes it work better.
Make sure the Sim that’s supposed to read the book is in the same room as the toddler asking for the bedtime story or initiate the interaction with the reading Sims instead of the toddler.
